Comprehensive Periodontal Care From an Experienced Dentist
If you are concerned about your gum health or have been diagnosed with gum disease, you may be a good candidate for some of our periodontal treatments. Dr. James Gainer has experience performing bone grafting, gingivectomy, and scaling and root planing therapies. We perform these procedures in-house under local anesthesia and can create a custom treatment plan that includes periodontal maintenance services if needed.
Patients who have suffered the effects of gum disease often need to undergo a bone grafting procedure to restore lost bone. If there is not enough bone available to support dental implants, you may need to undergo a bone graft before dental implant placement. Dr. Gainer may use the autogenous, xenograft, or allograft technique to perform this procedure.
Even if you have already had treatment for gum disease, you may still be at risk for re-infection. We typically put gum disease patients on a periodontal maintenance plan where the patient comes in for deep cleanings and checkups multiple times over the course of a year. This makes it easier to control the infection and monitor your gum health.
If other gum disease treatments have failed, we may perform a gingivectomy to reduce pocket depth between the gums and restore your gum health. This procedure involves removing infected tissue and reshaping loose gum tissue. It may also be performed to reduce gum tissue overgrowth.
This nonsurgical treatment for gum disease can be very effective for reducing pocket depth by up to 3 millimeters. We perform this procedure under local anesthesia on patients who are in the early stages of gum disease. It involves cleaning deep below the gum line and polishing the teeth with an ultrasonic tool so the gums can reattach to the surface of the tooth easily.
